Staying resilient in tough times
TWUSUPER's insurance provider, TAL, has partnered with Assure Programs to help support the mental health and wellbeing of TWUSUPER members - especially those directly or indirectly affected by COVID-19.
Below are three resources to help you keep emotionally and mentally fit, build resilience, and recognise how those around you may be struggling (with a few pointers of how you could help them).
Looking after yourself
COVID-19 and the impact it’s having on our lives is causing some of us heightened feelings of stress and anxiety. These feelings may come in waves, or they may be a constant part of our daily life.
Here are some practical tips which could hopefully be some 'easy wins' to help you take control.
When we feel safe and secure in our environment, we can think clearly and problem-solve effectively. If we feel unsafe, our brain is likely to detect potential threats and prepare us for a fight-or-flight response.
See how you could focus on the following areas to help override the stress response and build resilience:
- physical wellness
- nurturing relationships
- emotional regulation
Recognising the signs of self-harm
Every day in Australia, eight adults die by suicide, with death rates three times higher for men than women.
The below resource is for anyone who is concerned that a loved one or colleague is not travelling well, and will help you to:
- recognise if those around you may need help
- prepare for the conversation
- provide support through your actions
